Tangible and unplugged blocks of learning to code

Scratch Tactile

Description:
This project started in 2021 by Sistema THEAD, Scratch Tactile (formerly Scratch Jr Tactile or Scratch BCN tactile blocks) spreads computational thinking through tangible programming blocks based on ScratchJr. To inclusively develop skills that are so necessary for our society today, such as digital skills, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork (21st century skills), as well as through activities that introduce Sustainable Development in classrooms (SDGs) without the need for screens.


It is an open source project developed with the support of the Scratch Foundation, as well as numerous organizations and teachers committed to educational innovation and inclusion.

Robots and Digital Panels in the Schools of Catalonia

Digital Education Plan of Catalonia

Description: 
From the THEAD System, we have provided support in the implementation of the last phase of the Catalan Digital Education Plan, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Department of Education. This phase involves equipping more than 3,000 public schools with digital panels and robots. In addition to the material endowment, training is offered to teachers and support in various areas.

Translation of micro:bit in Catalan

Description: 

During 2022/2023, we promoted the translation of the Micro:bit platform and the MakeCode programming environment into Catalan. Thanks to the collaboration of a group of more than 20 volunteers, under the hashtag #microbitcatala among which are: Aitor Hernáez, Albert Esteve, Aleix Vidal i Gaya, Andrés García, Anna Macia Miralles, Antoni Olivella, Armand Oliva , Carolina Crespo, Elena Jurado, Enric Alvarez, Jaume Basseda, Jaume Dellunde, Joan Farré, Joan Sedeño, Lluís Molas, Marcos Quilez, Maria de Montserrat Oliveras, Mireia Jové Alcón, Núria Sabaté, Oriol Codina, Roger Olivella, Toni del Rio, Tony Barbosa, Xavier Orduña. Today we can inform you that Micro:bit is now available in Catalan.


Objects:
To achieve the translation of the Micro:bit platform and the MakeCode programming environment into Catalan, the main objectives have been:

  • Terase all elements of the platform Micro:bit and the MakeCode programming environment in Catalan, including user interfaces, instructions, error messages and other components.

  • Ensure the consistency and quality of the translation to guarantee an optimal user experience in Catalan.

  • Make the Micro:bit platform and the MakeCode programming environment accessible to Catalan speakers, thus expanding its use and impact on the Catalan community.

  • Facilitate the participation of Catalan-speaking users in the Micro:bit community, encouraging the creation of projects and collaboration in this area.

  • Promote learning and programming among Catalan students through a platform available in their native language.

  • Gather and share resources in Catalan to learn micro:bit on the website www.microbitcatala.cat

Micro:bit Live Barcelona 2023

Description: 
The Micro:bit Live Barcelona 2023 is an event that was held in Barcelona with the aim of bringing together professionals, educators and technology enthusiasts to share knowledge, experiences and the latest news about the use of the micro:bit in education and other areas. This event provided a unique opportunity to learn, connect and be inspired, through training sessions, hands-on workshops, keynotes and networking activities.

More than 220 teachers attended the event in person, and it was also possible to attend live online. The second edition is planned for next year.

Collaborative learning, equity and reducing inequalities

Scratch Education Collaborative SEC

Description:
THEAD System is one of 50 organizations from 13 countries selected to participate in the first cohort of the Scratch Education Collaborative (SEC) in 2021-23.

The SEC is a worldwide network of organizations focused on helping students from historically marginalized communities develop their confidence in creative computing, using the Scratch computer programming platform.

In the first year, the Scratch Foundation will host workshops on creative coding, equity and community building; inspiring members to connect and collaborate. It will also help our organization develop a set of equity tools and support us as we grow and expand our support to teachers and students in Catalonia, Spain and Latin America


Objectives:
- Increase access and eliminate creative digital gaps for teachers and students in traditionally underrepresented communities.
- Realign the resources of the Scratch Foundation towards a greater focus on serving marginalized communities and local organizations that support them.
- Create a network and self-sustaining models of creative IT resources and promote equity-focused learning experiences.

STEAM The adventure of learning by doing

Future Classroom Labs

Description: 
Training to a group of teachers from different schools in the province of Kütahya in Turkey, where they learned basic knowledge in different Steam tools and projects and activities with a social focus aligned with the goals of sustainable development

It is of great importance that students adapt to the constant and rapid changes in technology. Individual skills in STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) are increasingly important for the high-tech occupations of the future. Therefore, innovative approaches to education and teachers prepared to guide students and help them develop the necessary skills to improve their quality of life and develop in today's society are required.


Targets:
- Learn practical skills in educational robotics, computing, programming and how to use them to build meaningful and multidisciplinary STEAM learning experiences
- Understand the need for STEAM / ICT vocations and their approach to learning
- Practice and gain confidence with some innovative ICT learning tools
- Become aware of some key points of diversity for inclusive learning to reduce the different social gaps
- Be able to apply the lessons learned to your context and your school
- Build a team of teachers committed to making their school and their province a reference in educational innovation in the use of technology for the purpose of Global Goals.

WeSTEMConnected

"EDUCATIONAL INCUBATOR" PROGRAM

Description:
Incubator is a concept specific to the entrepreneurial sector that indicates impetus and support in the first phases of change or the birth of projects. We apply this concept to the educational world. We will empower and give impetus to your teachers and follow up in the process of incorporating sustainable development in the classroom, through technology, robotics and educational programming

The Incubator of WeSTEMConnected educational centers involves an impulse and close monitoring of the educational centers in their own process of incorporating sustainable development, technology, robotics and educational programming at the center level, in the curriculum and in the classrooms, or until and everything beyond. It has been successful in meeting the proposed objectives and driving the schools forward, gaining confidence and implementing innovative changes with enthusiasm.


Objectives:
- Co-create and promote transformative educational-technological projects for the 2022-23 school year with an inclusive and sustainable meaning, through close, enriching, collaborative support that reinforces the unique character of each educational center.
- Train, empower and motivate the teachers of the centers to carry out these transformations in the center
knowing the latest recommended tools and the most appropriate methodologies to apply them in classrooms.
- Learn to teach technology in a multidisciplinary, creative, active, inclusive way, with a social and sustainable sense linked to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
